These topics can be read in any order; but it is advisable to start with Topic One, as it's themes recur still today. These topics are interactive. You will find many "Pause for Thought" boxes, which are meant to clarify difficult arguments, and encourage fresh thinking on your part. There are also "Key Concepts", which explain technical jargon used by researchers. Finally, there are some short exercises "Before you read this". This is an attempt to use your own experience of work to put beside the research.
Some boxes have "Thinking Questions". This is to clarify the writers ideas, and to get you to think critically.
